New Exhibit! The Wyomissing Band: Celebrating 100 Years

Berks History Center (BHC) is excited to announce the arrival of its newest collaborative exhibit, The Wyomissing Band: Celebrating 100 Years, opening to the public on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, inside BHC’s Historical Society Museum at 940 Centre Avenue, Reading, Pa. 19601.

BHC continuously strives to work with fellow community organizations to highlight unique aspects of Berks County’s rich past through exhibits and programming. The result of this newest partnership with the Wyomissing Band, Inc. is an exhibit that celebrates 100 years of uniting people with music.

On December 12, 1922, fourteen individuals of musical background petitioned the Berks County Court of Common Pleas for the incorporation of a new town band. Two months later, on February 5, 1923, the Wyomissing Band, Inc. of Wyomissing, Pa. was founded.

By visiting The Wyomissing Band: Celebrating 100 Years, community members can learn about the Wyomissing Band’s humble beginnings, meet former and current band members, view uniforms and instruments from the last century, and literally march to the melody of popular band tunes.

“The BHC strongly values community partnerships such as this,” said BHC Museum Curator, Amber Vroman. “Collaborating with different groups about various topics of Berks County’s history is always tremendously rewarding. I enjoyed working with this great group of musicians that deserve all the celebrating that comes with their centennial anniversary year!”

Beginning February 15, 2023, visitors can view The Wyomissing Band: Celebrating 100 Years during BHC’s hours of operation from Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The collection will be on display until August 15, 2023.

In addition to the museum exhibit, BHC will be hosting a Wyomissing Band Lecture and Concert on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. inside BHC’s Terrence E. Connor Auditorium. Admission is free to the public. For more information, please call 610-375-4375 or visit berkshistory.org.
