BHC Celebrates Reading 275

BHC Celebrates Reading 275

The city of Reading kicked off its 275th Anniversary celebrations in March 2023. BHC is excited to join in on the festivities by offering special museum exhibit features and programming honoring this extraordinary milestone.

Beginning in August, the BHC Historical Society Museum will highlight objects and stories from Reading’s founding throughout each of our three levels of exhibits. Explore to learn about the city’s people of yesterday and today, its rich arts and industrial history, and so much more.

Be on the lookout for Reading 275 ID buttons amongst some of our “unchanged” displays. They represent objects that were either made in Reading, or belonged to someone who called the city their home. While you may have seen the object before, did you realize it had a Reading connection?

In addition, BHC will be offering special Reading 275 geared programming. For instance, on Thursday, September 14th, join BHC Museum Curator, Amber Vroman, for a very special Printmaking Workshop celebrating Reading’s 275th Anniversary.

During this program, participants will be carving a design into the surface of linoleum and transfer it onto paper with a hand printing process. The featured design for this workshop is inspired by the Reading Pagoda, the city’s most cherished and iconic landmark. These prints make wonderful gifts and greeting cards. All experience levels are welcome!

Not quite sure what Printmaking is? Watch the video below to learn more about this fun artistic process.

Tickets are $30 for BHC members and $35 for non-members and can be purchased by calling the Berks History Center at 610-375-4375 from Wednesday to Saturday, 9 AM – 3 PM. The purchase price includes all supplies and light refreshments.
