The Berks History 2020 Road Ramble – SOLD OUT!!!
The Berks History Center (BHC) invites you to participate in our Berks History 2020 Road Ramble on October 24, 2020! In an effort to keep our audience safe, the BHC decided to postpone its annual Four Centuries in Berks Historic Property Tour in favor of an event during which social distancing is possible. The BHC returns to its past to revisit Mystery Road Rambles that were held in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
On Saturday, October 24, 2020, starting at the Berks History Center, 940 Centre Ave, Reading, PA, you can ramble through Centre Park, Reading, West Reading, and Northern Berks County. The BHC 2020 Road Ramble takes 2 ½ – 3 hours and covers 45 (+) miles. We provide a BHC Road Ramble Packet including narratives, a Navigator’s Guide, information on our contests, instructions for using the BHC Road Ramble narrative CD, or USB drive. Contributions are included from 10 Berks County Historians and cover the history of the Berks History Center, Centre Park, the Bridges of Reading, Reading Railroad, Blue Marsh Dam, Berks Heritage Center, Reading’s Underground Railroad (Civil War), the industries of Reading and West Reading, the Lenape, Bloody Spring Road, and much more.

You can pick up your BHC Road Ramble Packet at The Berks History Center’s Henry Janssen Library Parking Lot on Saturday, October 24, 2020, from 10 am to 1 pm. Join us for this unique Berks County History event!!
BHC 2020 Road Ramble – More Fun & Food added –
As an additional fundraiser for the BHC, you can pre-purchase Kauffman Chicken Dinner…
Kauffman’s Bar-B-Que Restaurant dinners include a half chicken, baked potato or potato filling, pepper cabbage, plus roll and butter, and soda and coffee. The meal costs $15 (children’s meals available that include only a quarter chicken for $12), and must be pre-purchased before the event. The meal will be served in the private pavilion (with its own restroom facilities) reserved for BHC Road Ramble Participants for the day. If you wish to take your meal to go, containers will be provided. NOTE: Meals are available to be picked up from 2 pm-4 pm at the BHC pavilion at Kauffman’s. Additional food is available at Kauffman’s Restaurant. The deadline to order is Thursday, October 22, 2020.
COVID-19 caution: Kauffman’s Bar-B-Que Restaurant does not require its employees to wear masks. Please take this into consideration regarding your level of comfort when visiting their Restaurant.
If interested in pre-purchasing a Kauffman Chicken Dinner, please call the Berks History Center on Wednesdays to Saturdays from 9 am – 3 pm with your credit card information. Also, don’t forget to get your BHC 2020 Road Ramble Ticket. $ 35 per car.
