SUMMARY:POSTPONED TO SPRING 2021 (date TBD): Pilgrimage to Seneca Falls - Berks Suffrage Centennial 2020
DESCRIPTION:   \nThis bus trip was originally scheduled on May 15-17 and had been rescheduled to October 14-16\, 2020 due to the concerns with COVID-19. Unfortunately\, we will have to continue searching for an alternative date.  Please contact Vicky Heffner at 610-375-4375 for any rescheduling conflicts or additional concerns.  \nTravel to the Finger Lakes to tour the Women’s Rights Museum NPS in Seneca Falls where the fight to gain the right to vote began and tour the homes of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Harriet Tubman.\nThe Berks History Center along with the Berks Women’s History Alliance invites you to celebrate the decades-long journey of women demanding and working for the right to vote in a celebratory weekend trip to Seneca Falls\, NY. Travel to Harriet Tubman’s home in Auburn\, NY followed by dinner Friday evening in Belhurst Castle. Completed in 1889\, Belhurst Castle in Geneva\, NY\, sits on the original site of a Seneca Indian village and home to the Council of the Six Nations of Iroquois. Under the direction of Mrs. Carrie Young Hannon Collins\, the four-story castle took almost five years to complete. \nSaturday will be spent in Seneca Falls\, NY\, site of the first women’s rights convention in 1848 and the birthplace of the American Women’s Rights Movement. The National Women’s Hall of Fame was created in 1969\, and it is the nation’s oldest membership organization dedicated to recognizing and celebrating achievements of great American women. The Elizabeth Cady Stanton House museum honors this leading figure of the early women’s rights movement as well as her work as an American suffragist\, social activist and abolitionist. Later\, our visit to the Women’s Rights National Historic Park highlights women’s contributions and accomplishments that have been overlooked and consequently omitted from mainstream culture. At this museum\, women’s history isn’t meant to rewrite history; the objective is to promote scholarship and expand knowledge of American history. \nA weekend excursion to the Finger Lakes is not complete without a stop at a winery\, which we will do on our return trip Sunday. This celebratory pilgrimage of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment includes lodging and luggage handling\, two breakfasts and two dinners\, admissions to all museums\, tour and tasting at the winery\, taxes and meal gratuities (except bus driver tip)\, and motor coach transportation. \nThe bus departs from the Fecerra’s Furniture (4710 Penn Avenue\, Sinking Spring) parking lot. White Star Tours is our travel agency. \n$475 Double Occupancy (Additonal $10 for non-members) \n\nClick here for more information or to register contact Vicky Heffner\, Education Curator\, at 610.375.4375 or education@berkshistory.org.
